Welcoming Lori Lorusso: the Rust Foundation’s New Director of Outreach

Please join us in welcoming Lori Lorusso to the Rust Foundation as our new Director of Outreach! In this position, Lori will be an active communicator within the Project, liaising with its teams and working groups to propose, implement and champion current and new initiatives to sustain, secure and grow the Rust language. Through her role on our senior management team, Lori will advocate for the work of the Rust Project globally and work closely with the Technical and Communications teams to champion the Rust language, taking over this work from our Director of Finance and Funding, Paul Lenz, who will be retiring in September.

Lori has a passion and enthusiasm for working with developers and the open source community. She is an active member of multiple open source foundations such as CNCF, CDF, OpenSSF, DoK and has volunteered as a program committee member for KubeCon, Cloud Native Rejekts, cdCon, SOOCon and FOSDEM. Lori is committed to helping open source and other communities grow and adapt in our ever-changing technical landscape. On her new role, Lori said:

“I feel like my background in community and developer relations has been excellent preparation for my new role as Director of Outreach for the Rust Foundation. I was fortunate to work with the Rust Foundation at a previous positions and I’ve been watching how the Rust Project has grown and is flourishing with the support and amplification of the Rust Foundation. I look forward to getting immersed in the community to reinforce the bridge between the Rust Project and the Rust Foundation as I work to build relationships with maintainers and our board and help bring new developers, new projects, and new organizations to Rust.”

Say hi to Lori in person at RustConf 2025 in Seattle this September! You’ll be able to meet her at our registration desk and our community room 🦀
