Mainmatter Is Bringing Hands-On Rust Training to “Upskilling Week” in Barcelona!
We’re excited to share that Mainmatter (a Rust Foundation Silver Member and one of the most active Rust training organizations in Europe) will be hosting a workshop at the first-ever Upskilling Week in Barcelona, running June 29 – July 2, 2026.
This is a great opportunity for developers and engineers in the Barcelona area (and beyond!) to build practical Rust skills in a hands-on setting, led by some of the best Rust educators in the ecosystem. And to sweeten the deal: participants who complete the workshop will receive a Rust Foundation Workshop Completion Badge via Credly: a publicly verifiable credential tied to real, demonstrated skill.
About Upskilling Week
Upskilling Week is a new initiative by the Mobile World Capital Foundation, in collaboration with Barcelona Activa, designed to make the most in-demand digital and tech skills accessible through an intensive week of hands-on workshops and sessions led by industry professionals. Sessions run Monday through Thursday afternoon at Cibernàrium 22@, Barcelona Activa’s technology training hub.
The inaugural edition spans topics including artificial intelligence, software development, cybersecurity, cloud computing, blockchain, and Edge AI; all designed around applied learning and real-world projects. Rust fits right in!
Mainmatter’s Workshop: Learn Rust from Scratch
Mainmatter is running a two-day “Learn Rust from Scratch” workshop across back-to-back sessions at Upskilling Week, facilitated by Magnus Markling of Mainmatter:
- Day 1: Monday, June 29 | 15:00–20:00 | Cibernàrium 22@, Barcelona
- Day 2 (continuation): Tuesday, June 30 | 15:00–20:00 | Cibernàrium 22@, Barcelona
You can register for either session on its own, or attend both days for the full experience. The two-day format is an extended version of Mainmatter’s popular introductory Rust curriculum, designed to give participants a coherent, well-paced learning path without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.
We were particularly excited to see that this workshop assumes no prior knowledge of Rust, providing an on-ramp for total newbies. By the end, attendees will have a solid understanding of the Rust language, its standard library, and its testing and asynchronous programming capabilities, well equipped to continue the journey beyond the event.
Mainmatter’s workshops are hands-on: attendees spend the majority of their time writing code, working through exercises with automated solution-checking, while trainers provide 1:1 guidance and feedback throughout. Their curriculum (used at EuroRust, RustConf, and in training engagements with engineering teams across Europe) is developed and led by experts who are deeply embedded in the Rust ecosystem. Mainmatter also organizes EuroRust, the flagship European Rust conference, with the next edition coming to Barcelona this October!
The Rust Foundation works closely with Mainmatter and has a high degree of confidence in the quality of their training, which is exactly why we’re excited to spotlight this workshop. Earn a Rust Foundation Credly Badge
Participants who complete the workshop will earn a Rust Foundation Workshop Completion Badge via Credly: the same credential program we introduced at Talent Arena earlier this year.
This badge is issued by the Rust Foundation, publicly verifiable, and tied to defined participation criteria. As Rust continues to be adopted in safety-critical and performance-sensitive systems, employers increasingly need clear, portable signals of practical Rust expertise. This badge is a concrete step in that direction.
