Seeking Support or Sponsorship for Your Rust Event?

The Rust Foundation’s stewardship of the Rust programming language and ecosystem includes promoting, contributing, and championing events hosted by Rust community members. Our goal is to support a variety of Rust-focused events around the world.

Through the form below, you can submit an inquiry for:

  1. A grant between $100 and $500 USD. These grants are intended to cover typical event expenses for smaller events and meetups. Typical expenses we can help with include space rental fees, travel costs, refreshments, swag, online event platform costs, etc. We welcome applications from teams of people and organizations. Recipients will be required to abide by the Rust Foundation Code of Conduct and provide a written report of their event for publication on our website.
  2. Event sponsorship for larger events.

What We Look For in Event Support & Sponsorship Requests

Because the Rust Foundation receives many requests for sponsorship and financial support across a wide range of focus areas, we generally evaluate event sponsorship inquiries using the following considerations:

Impact:

We are more likely to consider sponsoring events that cater to various different types of attendees (for example, both students and professionals using Rust) around the world.

Reach:

The Rust Foundation bases its sponsorship decisions on the stated goals of your event. We look for a clear alignment between your goals and our mission to steward the Rust programming language and support the global community. If we feel your event is specifically aimed at filling a gap in the Rust ecosystem or focuses on a common challenge/user issue, we are more likely to serve as a sponsor.

Audience Diversity:

The Rust Foundation is always more likely to sponsor events that anticipate a diverse and inclusive global audience with data to demonstrate this.

Organizational Capacity:

Given the many complexities associated with planning events, we are more likely to sponsor an event if the organizing team has demonstrable experience hosting events/meetups for the open source community. There are exceptions to this expectation.

Region:

Given the recent proliferation of Rust events all around the world, the Rust Foundation must balance our sponsorship across as many geographic regions as possible. We are much more likely to sponsor your event if it is one of the only Rust-focused events in your area.

Audience Size:

Knowing how many attendees you are anticipating will allow us to better allocate funding for sponsorship.

Nonprofit vs. Commercial Model:

The Rust Foundation is much more likely to sponsor non-commercial, not-for-profit events.

Code of Conduct:

If you are interested in receiving sponsorship for your event from the Rust Foundation, you must have a publicly listed code of conduct and a plan to enforce it. If your code of conduct is not yet listed online, we will ask to see a draft of one.

If you feel your event meets these criteria for sponsorship consideration, please fill out the form below.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. We always aim to respond to applications with a sponsorship decision as quickly as possible.

Event Sponsorship/Support Form

Thank you for your interest in Rust Foundation support or sponsorship for your event!

After carefully reviewing the information on this page, we invite you to submit a request for event support or sponsorship using this form. Please pay particular attention to the helper text associated with many of the questions below. Generally, we support smaller events and meetups through Event Support Grants in amounts between $100 to $500. These grants can support virtual and in-person events benefitting the Rust ecosystem. We generally consider sponsorship models for larger Rust-focused events.

Finally, please note that we are more likely to consider requests for support/sponsorship that are submitted at least three months prior to the start of your event.
